A Return to Squash - April 2021

Dear Members,

As we approach the ending of lockdown and we start to see an easing in the restrictions, England Squash has released the following summary:

Please note all these timings are provisional and this is just early draft guidance but it did follow similar steps last time in 2020. So in simple terms we hope:

  • From 12 April that solo practice and one household squash can start up. If you plan either of these activities please do book a court even if just for 20mins or so to comply with Covid guidelines reducing numbers in the Club at any one time.
  • From 17 May modified squash ( sides) can restart between any two adults or juniors. We also look to re-start the showers as well by then.
  • From 21 June: Life returns to “normal”.

Many of our older members will have been vaccinated at least once by now but that does not allow them to play squash together if from different households before 17 May. The Government does not even allow fully vaccinated people from different households to meet unrestrictedly in a house so no chance for squash at this stage!

Hopefully many of you will start to search for your trusty squash racket again soon, put some solo practice in and brush off those cobwebs from 12 April but do note the timings are still provisional and if the Government responds cautiously to a sudden spike in infections as lockdown is eased then the timings could be delayed. We will issue another bulletin in due course to confirm re-opening.

Looking ahead we will be two AGMs behind come May/June and we will be saying more in due course to address this and also think about the Club’s future prospects. We have financially weathered the Covid lockdown quite well and as a Club we ( that’s all of us as members) need to think about the way ahead and future development.

Happy Easter to all our members.
