Maidstone Team Squash

Both of our teams performed very well in the 2023/24 winter season with Maidstone 1 finishing in the top spot of division 4 and Maidstone 2 finishing a very commendable 3rd just 5 points short of finishing second.

With just one more very important match to play, Maidstone 1 will be guests of Tunbridge Wells Squash Club to Battle it out in the grand final for the Ian Wright Cup, this is a knock out competition between all the teams from Division 4 and 5.

This game is being played tonight at Tunbridge Wells Squash Club 39A London Rd, Tunbridge Wells TN1 1DLfrom 7.30pm all supporters turning up will be warmly received, who knows they might even buy you all a drink…

Wishing Maidstone 1 all the best for tonights final and hope they bring the Ian Wright Trophy back home to MSC “Cauldron of Fire”

Box Games

It has been brought to my attention that there are box players that seem too refused to actively arrange or reply to other players communications in regards to arranging these box games, can I ask all players to both try to contact other players in there box and if they do receive a message or email from another player to reply to it. The box squash games will only survive if all players talk to each other so please either contact and reply to get the games arrange or let me know that you would like your name removed from the box leagues

Many Working Hands Required 28th April

With the weather starting to get a bit better we are now moving onto the second phase of the clubs General Building Maintenance and Repairs on the outside of the building where we need to clean away all the Ivy and anything else that is growing over and around the building so that we can give the building a very much needed make over.

We are calling for volunteers to help clear up around the building on Sunday 28th April from 8am.

Bacon / Sausage sandwiches will be available to all volunteers all washed down with as much tea and coffee they can drink.

So if you can spare a couple of hours of your spare time on the 28th it will be greatly appreciated, just let Darren T (Hurty) know that you are available.

MSC – AGM 2024

At the upcoming Club AGM scheduled for the 22 April we plan to adopt a set of updated Club Rules governing how the Club operates and manages its affairs. These same rules have largely operated since the Club's foundation but needed updating since their last review in 2004 mainly focusing on how we introduce new members into the Club and how the online court booking system works. A set of the updated rules will be placed on the Club noticeboard and some spares kept behind the bar ( ask Darren) if you would like to review them. If you have any queries please email Andrew at treasurer@maidstonesquashclub.com.

Box League scoring system (updated 11-4-24)

We will be implementing a small change to the Box League scoring system next month (May boxes onwards) this is generally used at many other squash clubs around the country and is designed to encourage and reward all players that turn up and play there Box games, the change to the scoring system is that a player will get 1 point for turning up to play, and the wining player will get a extra point for winning the match.

Example

Player 1 V Player 2, ……………………………….Player 1 beats Player 2, 3-0, the score should be recorded as a 5-1 win to player 1 (1 point per game won, 1 point to the player winning the match and 1 point to both players for turning up)

Player 1 V Player 2 ………………………………..Player 1 loses to player 2 2-3, the score should be recorded as 5-3 win to player 2 (1 point per game won, 1 point to the player winning the match and 1 point to both players for turning up)

If a player fails to turn up at the time and date arranged it will be classed as a “walk over” to the player that has turned up at the club to play the match and will be rewarded the win, a 5-0 score should be recorded

2 Bonus points will be awarded to any player playing all his games.

Regards

Darren
